Information for Parents

Approaches used

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and other evidence based approaches are used to improve functioning. Psychological therapy has three stages: initial, treatment, and closing stages. Sessions typically take place weekly or fortnightly for 6-12 sessions.

To ensure your child feels comfortable sharing their concerns what they disclose is private and confidential. However, if they are in danger of hurting themselves or others, parents will be involved to keep them safe. Limits of confidentiality are explained to your child in the first session.

 Medicare benefits & fees

The Medicare reimbursement benefit is $80 provided your child has a mental health care plan from a GP.  Some private health insurance companies also provide rebates on extras cover. Check with your individual provider for more information.

If the out-of-pocket fee is prohibitive to accessing therapy concessions may apply. Payment can be made on the day via cash or cheque. A direct deposit option is also available.

A strict 24 hour cancellation policy applies. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment incur the cost of the full fee.

Medicare reimburses clients $80 per session provided the client has been referred by a GP. See Medicare Australia for more information.
